چکیده
This panel will present and discuss how quantitative data analysis can help us to tell stories that bring deeper meaning to our research. In order to tell stories successfully, the researcher must understand the variety of data analysis methods available and know when to apply each kind of method. This panel will focus on these questions: • How can we tell stories about “unreal” phenomena and still be event-driven and make sense of disparate entities? • How can we predict future or unknown events with current data? • How can we tell stories about phenomena that are nested?

Report of the Alma Scientiic Advisory Committee: M a R C H 2000 Meeting
The ALMA Scienti c Advisory Committee (hereafter ASAC) was formed in late 1999, as requested by the ALMA Coordinating Committee (hereafter ACC). The role of the ASAC is to provide scienti c advice to the ACC, the ALMA Executive Committee (hereafter AEC) and the project, via the project scientists. As requested, the ASAC developed its own charter, which we supply as Appendix A. The ASAC decided ...
متن کاملCombined force-moment actuator for ASAC
This paper deals with a recently developed actuator based on piezoelectric bimorphs which are useful for ASAC applications. The actuator takes the form of two channels with pairs of bimorphs. Each of the bimorph transducers in the couple is connected separately so that the actuator can act in both moment and force configurations simultaneously. The control algorithm allows the ratio between the...
متن کاملFiltered-X LMS vs repetitive control for active structural acoustic control of periodic disturbances
This paper presents a comparison of repetitive control and narrowband filtered-X LMS feedforward control, both applicable in the field of active structural acoustic control (ASAC) and active noise control (ANC) of periodic disturbances. This can be useful for example in rotating machinery, where the disturbance is often determined by the rotational speed. A frequency domain relation between the...
متن کاملActive Structural Acoustic Control of repetitive impact noise
This paper discusses the effectiveness of an Active Structural Acoustic Control (ASAC) system for the reduction of impact noise, radiated by structures with a high modal density in the controlled frequency range. Although there is a significant difference in nature between periodic and transient noise, up till now no specific research on ASAC of transient noise was reported. This paper focuses ...
متن کاملASAC 2008 Halifax, Nova Scotia
The upper echelon theory (Hambrick and Mason 1984) posits that the firm is a reflection and extension of the entrepreneurs that manage it. As such, the firm’s strategic choices, behaviours, and performance are, to a large extend, influenced by the demographic characteristics of the entreprenurs (Smith et al. 1996), their social connections (Geletkanycz and Hambrick 1997), their perceptions of t...
